Old-Fashioned Custard Pie
Ingredients
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
3 large eggs, beaten
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
2½ cups whole milk (room temperature)
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (plus extra for sprinkling)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate. Crimp the edges if you like.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla until smooth.
Slowly whisk in the milk, then stir in the nutmeg.
Pour the custard mixture into the unbaked pie crust.
Sprinkle a little extra nutmeg on top for that classic look.
Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes.
Reduce oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 30–35 minutes, or until:
The center is just slightly jiggly
A knife inserted near the center comes out clean
Remove from oven and let cool completely.
The custard will set more as it cools.
