Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Beef Stew
Simple, hearty, and comforting — this easy beef stew needs just 5 main ingredients and your slow cooker does the rest.
🛒 Ingredients (Serves 6)
2 lbs (900 g) beef chuck, cut into chunks
4 cups potatoes, peeled & cubed
3 cups carrots, sliced
1 onion, chopped
1 packet (1 oz) dry onion soup mix
Optional (but recommended):
2 cups beef broth (for thinner stew)
Salt & pepper to taste
👩‍🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Layer Ingredients
Place beef chunks in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Add potatoes, carrots, and onion on top.
Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly over everything.
2️⃣ Add Liquid
For thicker stew: no extra liquid needed (vegetables release moisture).
For broth-style stew: add 2 cups beef broth.
3️⃣ Cook
Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours
or
Cook on HIGH for 4–5 hours
Beef should be fork-tender.
4️⃣ Finish
Stir gently.
Taste and adjust salt and pepper if needed.
If you want thicker gravy, remove lid during last 30 minutes.
