Layered Steak & Onions Bake (3 Main Ingredients)
Tender steak baked over sweet caramelizing onions with a creamy, cheesy finish — simple but incredibly satisfying.
🧾 Ingredients
1½–2 pounds steak (sirloin, ribeye, or round), sliced or whole
3 large onions, thinly sliced
1 cup heavy cream
1½ cups shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
👩‍🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Onions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Add sliced onions and cook 8–10 minutes until softened and lightly golden.
Season lightly with salt and pepper.
2️⃣ Prepare the Steak
Pat steak dry.
Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
3️⃣ Layer the Dish
In a greased baking dish, spread half the onions on the bottom.
Place steak on top.
Cover with remaining onions.
Pour heavy cream evenly over everything.
Sprinkle shredded cheese generously on top.
4️⃣ Bake
Cover loosely with foil.
Bake for 25–35 minutes (depending on thickness).
Remove foil during the last 10 minutes to brown the cheese.
For medium doneness, aim for an internal temperature of 135–145°F (57–63°C).
