  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
For the Filling:
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
For the Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add warm milk, melted butter, and the egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Make the Filling

  1. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until a spreadable paste forms.
  2. Peel and dice the apples into small cubes.

Step 3: Assemble the Rolls

  1. Roll out the risen dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
  3. Sprinkle the diced apples evenly on top.
  4. Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from the long edge.
  5. Slice the log into 12 even rolls and place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 4: Second Rise and Bake

  1. Cover the rolls with a clean towel and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 5: Glaze the Rolls

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls. For an optional touch, dust with extra powdered sugar before serving.
