Ingredients:
For the Patties:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juicier patties)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Non-stick spray or a small amount of oil for cooking
For the Special Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp French dressing or Thousand Island dressing
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp paprika
For Assembling:
- 4 sesame seed burger buns (you’ll need to use an extra bun to create the “middle bun” layer)
- 1/2 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1/2 cup finely diced onion
- 8 dill pickle slices
- 4 slices American cheese
Instructions:
- Make the Special Sauce:
In a small bowl, mix together all the sauce ingredients. Cover and refrigerate while you prepare the other ingredients. - Prepare the Middle Buns:
Take the extra burger bun and cut it into two thin layers horizontally, creating a “middle” bun for each burger. - Cook the Patties:
- Shape the ground beef into thin, round patties about the same diameter as the buns (they should be quite thin).
- Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat, add a little oil or spray, and cook the patties for about 2 minutes on each side until browned. (Try to get a slight crisp around the edges like the real Big Mac).
- Assemble the Big Macs:
- On the bottom bun, spread a spoonful of the special sauce, then add some shredded lettuce, diced onions, a slice of cheese, and a beef patty.
- Add the middle bun layer, then repeat with sauce, lettuce, onions, pickles, and another beef patty.
- Top it off with the final bun layer.
- Serve:
Enjoy your homemade Big Macs with fries or your favorite sides!
