Would you eat this Deep Dish Pizza Pie

Ingredients:
For the Crust:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup cheddar cheese (optional)
  • ½ cup sliced mushrooms
  • ½ cup sliced green bell peppers or jalapeños
  • Pepperoni slices

Toppings:

  • Additional shredded mozzarella
  • Extra pepperoni and vegetables for garnish

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:

  1. Mix warm water and yeast in small bowl. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, and salt in large bowl. Add yeast mixture and olive oil, mix until dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on floured surface 8-10 minutes until smooth. Cover with damp cloth, let rise 1 hour.

Cook the Filling:

  1. Brown ground beef/sausage over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in pizza sauce, cook 5 minutes. Set aside.

Assemble the Pizza Pie:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll dough into large circle, press into greased deep baking/springform pan. Trim excess.
  3. Layer: mozzarella, meat filling, mushrooms, peppers. Repeat layers as desired.
  4. Top with extra cheese and toppings.

Bake:

  1. Bake 25-30 minutes until crust is golden and cheese bubbles.
  2. Cool slightly before slicing.

Serve warm with salad or garlic bread.
