Ham & Potato Soup (Creamy & Comforting)
A cozy, hearty soup made with tender potatoes, smoky ham, and a rich creamy broth — perfect for chilly days or using up leftover ham.
🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)
2 tablespoons butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 cups diced potatoes (about 3–4 medium potatoes)
1½ cups cooked ham, diced
3 cups chicken broth
1 cup milk
½ cup heavy cream (optional for extra richness)
½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
2 tablespoons chopped parsley (for garnish)
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Sauté the Aromatics
In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat.
Add onion and cook 3–4 minutes until soft.
Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
2️⃣ Make the Base
Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute (this thickens the soup).
Slowly whisk in chicken broth to avoid lumps.
3️⃣ Add Potatoes & Ham
Add diced potatoes, ham, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 15–20 minutes, until potatoes are tender.
4️⃣ Make it Creamy
Stir in milk and cream.
Simmer 5 more minutes.
For thicker soup, mash some potatoes directly in the pot.
5️⃣ Finish
Stir in shredded cheese (if using).
Adjust seasoning to taste.
🍞 Serve With
Crusty bread
Garlic toast
Side salad
💡 Tips
