Buttermilk Pie (Old-Fashioned Southern Classic)
Sweet, creamy, custard-style pie with a slightly crisp, golden top — simple ingredients, unforgettable flavor.

Prep time: 10–15 minutes
Bake time: 50–60 minutes
🛒 Ingredients
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
1½ cups granulated sugar
3 large eggs, room temperature
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon lemon juice (fresh preferred)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
Optional: pinch of nutmeg for the top
👩‍🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat oven:
Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Place pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate and crimp edges.
2️⃣ Mix filling:
In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar together until combined.
Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition.
Stir in buttermilk, flour, lemon juice, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
3️⃣ Fill the crust:
Pour mixture into the unbaked pie shell. Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg if using.
4️⃣ Bake:
Bake 50–60 minutes, until the center is set but slightly jiggly.
The top will form a light golden crust.
5️⃣ Cool completely:
Let cool at room temperature for at least 2 hours before slicing (it sets as it cools).
