Red Jam Recipe
Introduction
Red jam is a sweet fruit preserve made by cooking red fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, or cherries with sugar until thick and spreadable. It’s perfect for toast, cakes, pastries, yogurt, or desserts.
Ingredients
1 kg (2.2 lb) red fruit (strawberries, raspberries, or cherries)
700–800 g sugar (adjust to taste)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
½ teaspoon lemon zest (optional)
Optional Additions
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon chia seeds (for natural thickening)
A pinch of salt to enhance flavor
Instructions
Prepare the Fruit
Wash the fruit well. Remove stems, pits, or leaves. Chop large fruits like strawberries.
Mix with Sugar
Place the fruit in a large pot. Add the sugar and lemon juice. Stir well.
Rest (Optional but Recommended)
Let the mixture sit for 30–60 minutes to release natural juices.
Cook the Jam
Place the pot over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
Simmer
Reduce heat and let the mixture simmer for 20–30 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
Check Thickness
Place a small spoon of jam on a cold plate. If it wrinkles when pushed with a finger, it’s ready.
Add Optional Ingredients
Stir in vanilla or chia seeds if using.
Jar the Jam
Pour the hot jam into clean sterilized jars. Seal tightly.
Tips for Success
Stir frequently to avoid burning.
Remove foam from the surface for a clearer jam.
If you want a smoother jam, blend it briefly.
Storage
Refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.
Properly sealed jars can last several months in a cool, dark place.
