French Onion Beef Casserole 🧅🥩🧀
A rich and comforting casserole inspired by the flavors of French onion soup—savory beef, caramelized onions, tender noodles, and lots of melted cheese.
🧾 Ingredients
450 g (1 lb) ground beef
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 can (300 g / 10.5 oz) condensed French onion soup
1 cup beef broth
2 cups egg noodles (uncooked)
1 cup sour cream
1½ cups shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
👩‍🍳 Instructions
Preheat oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a casserole dish.
Cook onions
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 8–10 minutes until soft and golden.
Brown the beef
Add ground beef and cook until browned. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Make the sauce
Mix in the French onion soup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 3–4 minutes.
Combine ingredients
In a large bowl, mix the beef mixture with uncooked egg noodles and sour cream.
Assemble casserole
Pour into the prepared baking dish. Top with mozzarella (or Swiss) and Parmesan cheese.
Bake
Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Serve
Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
