🍽️ Old-Fashioned Meatloaf with Brown Gravy
🧾 Ingredients
🥩 For the Meatloaf:
2 lbs ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried parsley (optional)
🍲 For the Brown Gravy:
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt & pepper to taste
👩🍳 Instructions
- Prepare the meatloaf
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and parsley.
Mix gently (don’t overwork it or it’ll be dense). - Shape & bake
Form into a loaf and place in a baking dish or loaf pan.
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until fully cooked (internal temp ~70°C / 160°F).
Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. - Make the brown gravy
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes (this removes raw flour taste).
Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth.
Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Simmer until thickened (3–5 minutes).
🍽️ To Serve
Slice the meatloaf and pour warm gravy over the top.
Perfect with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables.
