Aunt Betty’s Homestyle German Rocks

Aunt Betty’s Homestyle German Rocks
🧾 Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup brown sugar
1 cup butter, softened
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon (optional but recommended)
½ tsp nutmeg (optional)
1½ cups rolled oats
1 cup raisins or currants
½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
👩‍🍳 Instructions
Preheat oven
Set to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Cream butter & sugar
In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs & vanilla
Mix in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
Combine dry ingredients
In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Mix together
Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
Add texture
Stir in oats, raisins, and nuts. The dough will be thick and chunky.
Form “rocks”
Drop rough spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet—don’t shape them perfectly (they should look rustic).
Bake
Bake for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown on the edges.
Cool
Let cool on a rack before serving.
🌟 Tips
For a more authentic old-world taste, use currants instead of raisins
Add a splash of milk if the dough feels too stiff
These cookies are meant to look rough and craggy—that’s the “rock” style
