Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
🧾 Ingredients
For the patties:
500 g (1 lb) ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the gravy:
1 packet onion soup mix (or homemade equivalent)
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
1 medium onion, sliced
200 g (7 oz) mushrooms, sliced (optional)
👩🍳 Instructions
Make the patties
In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Shape into 4–6 oval patties.
Brown the patties (optional but recommended)
In a skillet over medium heat, sear patties for 2–3 minutes per side until browned. (This adds flavor but you can skip if short on time.)
Layer in slow cooker
Place sliced onions and mushrooms in the bottom. Lay patties on top.
Add gravy mixture
In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Pour over patties.
Cook
Cover and cook:
Low: 6–7 hours
High: 3–4 hours
Thicken the gravy
In the last 30 minutes, mix cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Stir into the slow cooker and let it thicken.
Serve
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
💡 Tips
Add a splash of cream for a richer gravy.
You can swap ground beef for turkey for a lighter version.
If you don’t have onion soup mix, use beef bouillon + onion powder.
