Cowboy Baked Beans
🧾 Ingredients
4 cups canned baked beans (about 2 cans, undrained)
250 g (½ lb) ground beef
6 slices beef or turkey bacon, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 can (about 400 g / 15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 can (about 400 g / 15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
👩‍🍳 Instructions
Cook the bacon
In a large skillet, cook chopped bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside.
Cook the beef & onion
In the same pan, cook ground beef and onion until browned and softened. Drain excess fat if needed. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Mix the sauce
Stir in barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and pepper.
Combine beans
Add baked beans, kidney beans, and pinto beans. Stir well.
Add bacon
Return cooked bacon to the mixture and mix.
Bake
Transfer to a baking dish and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 35–45 minutes, until thick and bubbly.
🔥 Slow Cooker Option
Add everything to a slow cooker.
Cook on low for 4–6 hours or high for 2–3 hours.

Add diced jalapeños for a spicy kick 🌶️
Use smoked sausage instead of ground beef for extra flavor
A splash of apple cider vinegar balances the sweetness
