🛒 Ingredients
For the Hamburger Steaks
1½ lbs (680g) ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and black pepper to taste
2 tablespoons olive oil or butter (for frying)
For the Gravy
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter (if needed)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
👩‍🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Make the Patties
In a bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Mix gently (don’t overwork the meat).
Shape into 4–5 oval patties, slightly flattened in the center.
2️⃣ Brown the Steaks
Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned.
Remove from skillet and set aside (they will finish cooking in gravy).
3️⃣ Make the Onion Gravy
In the same skillet, add sliced onions. Cook until soft and caramelized (about 5–7 minutes).
Add butter if needed, then sprinkle in flour. Stir and cook 1–2 minutes.
Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
Simmer until thickened (3–5 minutes).
Season with salt and pepper.
4️⃣ Simmer Together
Return hamburger steaks to the skillet.
Spoon gravy over them.
Cover and simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
