🧾 Ingredients (1 loaf)
3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (about 37–40°C)
2 tbsp sugar
2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
3 tbsp butter, softened (or oil)
1 tsp salt
1 egg (optional, for richer texture)

- Activate the yeast
In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast.
Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. - Make the dough
Add butter, salt, and egg (if using).
Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. - Knead
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes
(or 5–6 minutes with a mixer)
Dough should be smooth and slightly sticky. - First rise
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours
until doubled in size. - Shape
Punch down the dough.
Shape into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan. - Second rise
Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until it rises above the pan. - Bake
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F)
Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. - Cool
Remove from pan and let cool on a rack before slicing.

Use warm—not hot—milk to avoid killing the yeast
Don’t add too much flour; soft dough = soft bread
Brush top with butter after baking for a softer crust
