Old-Fashioned Sawdust Pie (Kentucky Classic)
Despite the name, there’s no sawdust—just a deliciously chewy, nutty, coconut-filled pie!
🧾 Ingredients
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
3 egg whites
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract
Optional toppings:
Whipped cream
Chocolate syrup or caramel drizzle

  1. Preheat Oven
    Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Filling
    In a large bowl, beat egg whites until slightly frothy (not stiff).
    Add sugar and mix well.
    Stir in:
    coconut
    graham cracker crumbs
    chopped pecans
    melted butter
    vanilla extract
    Mix until fully combined.
  3. Assemble the Pie
    Pour the filling into the unbaked pie crust and spread evenly.
  4. Bake
    Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the top is golden brown and set.
  5. Cool & Serve
    Let cool completely so it firms up.
    Slice and serve with whipped cream or drizzle of chocolate/caramel.
    🍽️ Tips for Best Results
    Don’t overbake—the center should be set but still slightly chewy.
    Toast the pecans beforehand for deeper flavor.
    Store leftovers in the fridge.
