German Rocks (Old-Fashioned Rock Cookies)
🧾 Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves (optional)
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
1/2 cup milk

- Prep the Oven
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. - Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together:

cocoa powder
baking soda
salt
cinnamon
cloves - Cream Butter & Sugar
In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla. - Combine
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture.
Add milk and mix until combined.
Fold in raisins, nuts, and chocolate chips. - Shape
Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet (they’ll look rough and “rocky”—that’s the idea!). - Bake
Bake for 12–15 minutes until set.
🍽️ Tips for Best Results
Don’t overbake—cookies should stay soft inside.
Soak raisins in warm water for 10 minutes for extra juiciness.
Add a pinch of nutmeg for deeper flavor.
