Ham, Green Beans & Potatoes
🛒 Ingredients
500–700 g smoked ham (cubed) or 2–3 ham hocks
500 g fresh green beans, trimmed (or frozen)
4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
1 small onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 cups chicken broth (or water + bouillon)
1 teaspoon salt (adjust if ham is salty)
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
½ teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
1 tablespoon butter (optional, for richness)
👨🍳 Instructions
- Build the Base
In a large pot or Dutch oven, add ham, onion, and garlic.
Sauté for 2–3 minutes to release flavor (skip if using ham hocks and just add everything in). - Add Ingredients
Add green beans and potatoes to the pot.
Pour in chicken broth until everything is mostly covered.
Season with pepper, paprika, and thyme (go easy on salt at first). - Simmer
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
Cover and simmer for 30–40 minutes, until potatoes are tender and flavors are well combined. - Finish
Taste and adjust salt if needed.
Stir in butter for a richer finish (optional).
If using ham hocks, remove them, shred the meat, and return it to the pot.
🍽️ Serve
Ladle into bowls with some broth
Great with crusty bread or cornbread 🥖
🔥 Tips
Add a splash of vinegar at the end for a subtle tang
For thicker broth, mash a few potatoes in the pot
Slow cooker option: cook on low 6–7 hours or high 3–4 hours
You can toss in carrots for extra sweetness
