Homemade Meat Pie
📝 Dough Ingredients
3 cups flour
250 g butter or margarine (cold, cubed)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup cold water (add gradually)
🥩 Filling Ingredients
300 g minced meat
2 medium potatoes (small diced)
1 carrot (diced)
1 onion (chopped)
1–2 seasoning cubes
Salt & black pepper (to taste)
1 tbsp flour
1/2 cup water or stock
2 tbsp oil
🥚 Egg Wash
1 egg (beaten)

  1. Prepare the Dough
    In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking powder.
    Add cold butter and rub into the flour until crumbly (like breadcrumbs).
    Gradually add cold water and mix until a soft dough forms.
    Wrap and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes.
  2. Make the Filling
    Heat oil in a pan, sauté onions until soft.
    Add minced meat and cook until browned.
    Stir in potatoes, carrots, seasoning cubes, salt, and pepper.
    Add water/stock and cook until vegetables are slightly tender.
    Mix 1 tbsp flour with a little water, add to the filling to thicken.
    Cook until thick and moist (not watery).
    Let it cool completely.
  3. Assemble the Pies
    Roll out the dough on a floured surface.
    Cut into circles or rectangles.
    Add a spoon of filling in the center.
    Fold over and seal edges with a fork.
  4. Bake
    Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
    Brush with egg wash.
    Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
    🍽️ Tips
    Don’t overfill or the pies may open
    Make sure filling is cool before stuffing
    For extra flavor, add a little curry powder or thyme
    You can freeze before baking and cook later
